Austin
improved his interpersonal and social skills while participating at Camp Double Eagle.
Austin
had been kicked out of school and was enrolled in an emotional disabilities program. He had violent tendencies, threatened to kill himself, and wandered off when he was overwhelmed. The program director and
Austin
created a plan that helped him improve his behavior. He learned to go to a counselor and share his problems when he started to feel upset. He learned to take responsibility for his actions by verbalizing that he was upset rather than running away, and he redirected his behavior by drawing and doing something he enjoyed. He also created his own consequences such as not going on the field trip or not being able to play baseball if he made bad choices. Fortunately
Austin
did not have to experience the consequences. His feelings of anxiety diminished throughout the summer, he depended less on staff, and proved he was capable of changing his behavior by redirecting his negative thoughts.
