“Jonathan” is a 22 year-old man diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.  Like many with this disorder, Jonathan had for years found it challenging to communicate with people in social situations.  He often expressed his desire to have friends and be part of “a group,” but never seemed to quite find a niche in which he could be accepted.

Our local United Way - the United Way in Waukesha County - has had a formal relationship with the AFL-CIO for decades. Kurt Schmidt, member of Local DALU 24111, is employed by our local United Way as the AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison. He is one of almost 190 full-time state and local AFL-CIO Community Services Liaisons employed throughout the nation. They serve as links between their state federations, central labor councils, AFL-CIO afiiliated unions and their local United Ways.
